New Delhi [India], April 7: Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill earned glowing praise from former cricketers Mark Boucher and Aakash Chopra following his match-winning innings in a dominant seven-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2025. The commentary came during Match Centre Live on JioHotstar, where both analysts commended Gill’s maturity and calm under pressure.
Gujarat made it three wins in a row, comfortably chasing a modest 153-run target with several overs to spare, thanks to an all-round team effort and Gill’s composed knock. Despite early blows from Mohammed Shami and Pat Cummins, Gill remained unfazed, crafting an unbeaten 61 off 43 balls at a strike rate of 141.86, ultimately sealing victory with the winning run.
Former Mumbai Indians coach Mark Boucher was impressed by Gill’s temperament during the chase.
“He never looked like he was panicking at all, even though he was losing a couple of wickets around him. It was a great captain’s innings, especially away from home,” Boucher said.
Meanwhile, Aakash Chopra highlighted the often underappreciated role of an anchor in T20 cricket.
“Sometimes we undervalue the importance of an anchor in T20s. Gill played the perfect knock for the conditions, keeping it along the ground after early wickets,” Chopra explained.
Chopra also pointed to Gill’s evolution as a T20 batter, noting his newly developed sweep shot and signature inside-out strokes that have enhanced his consistency at the top of the order.
With this win, Gujarat Titans continue their climb up the IPL 2025 points table, bolstering their playoff aspirations with each clinical performance.
