Shubman Gill Reflects On GT’s Loss To LSG, Stresses Importance Of Momentum Ahead Of Playoffs

Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper Shubman Gill shared his thoughts on the team’s 33-run defeat against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) on Thursday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Gill pointed out that GT conceded too many runs while bowling and that the game slipped away in the middle overs. He stressed the need to control scoring during those phases and highlighted key takeaways despite the loss.

“We gave 15-20 runs extra. Wanted to stop them around 210. Huge difference between 210 and 230. We bowled well in the powerplay, didn’t get any wickets, but after the powerplay in the 14 overs, they scored around 180 runs, which was a lot. (On the positives) We were right in the game till the 17th over, but it was never easy chasing 240. Lots of positives for us – Rutherford and Shahrukh’s batting was a big plus. (Looking forward) Getting back some momentum would be key, and would want to get back to winning ways heading into the playoffs,” said Gill during the post-match presentation.

LSG’s bowling attack, led by William O’Rourke and Akash Singh Maharaj, proved too strong for GT, securing a comfortable 33-run victory.

Despite the defeat, Gujarat Titans remain at the top of the IPL points table with 18 points from 13 matches (9 wins, 4 losses). Lucknow Super Giants, with 12 points from 13 games (6 wins, 7 losses), are currently in sixth place.

Gill, who has been in excellent form this season, scored 35 off 20 balls in the match, including seven boundaries. He was dismissed by Avesh Khan in the 8th over. The GT captain has now accumulated 636 runs in 13 innings, with an average of 57.82 and six half-centuries to his name.

Gujarat Titans will face MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their final league match on Sunday, May 25, at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
