Hyderabad (Telangana) [India]: Explosive batting displays from Shubman Gill, Washington Sundar, and Sherfane Rutherford, combined with a stunning four-wicket haul from Mohammed Siraj, led Gujarat Titans (GT) to a dominant seven-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at their home ground on Sunday.

Chasing a target of 153, GT stumbled early, losing two wickets for just 16 runs. But a match-defining 90-run partnership between Gill and Sundar took the game away from the hosts. GT chased down the target with 20 balls to spare and now sits second on the points table with three wins and one loss (6 points). Meanwhile, SRH continues to struggle, suffering their fourth straight defeat despite a strong season opener against Rajasthan Royals.

Shubman Gill and Washington Sundar then stabilized the innings. Gill kickstarted the counterattack with back-to-back boundaries off Shami in the fifth over, followed by Sundar tearing into Simarjeet Singh in the sixth with two fours and two sixes. GT ended the powerplay at 48/2 with Sundar on 23* and Gill on 19*.
Sundar helped GT reach the 50-run mark by the 6.3 over with a boundary through deep mid-wicket. The duo put together a fiery 50-run stand in just 27 balls. By the halfway mark (10 overs), GT stood comfortably at 82/2.
Gill reached his maiden fifty of the season in 36 balls, laced with seven boundaries. Sundar, on the other hand, narrowly missed out on a half-century, dismissed for a brilliant 49 off 29 balls (five fours, two sixes), thanks to a sharp catch by Aniket Verma. GT was 106/3 in 13.1 overs.
Sherfane Rutherford then joined Gill and wasted no time, cracking a four off Shami and hammering Abhishek Sharma for 18 runs in a single over. The duo finished the chase without further loss, guiding GT to 153/3 in just 16.4 overs. Gill remained unbeaten on 61 (43 balls, nine fours), while Rutherford smashed an entertaining 35* off 16 balls (six fours, one six).
Shami ended with figures of 2/28 in four overs, while Cummins took 1/26 in 3.4 overs. However, their efforts weren’t enough to contain GT’s aggressive lineup.
Earlier, it was Mohammed Siraj who stole the show with the ball, picking up 4/17 in a sensational spell at his home ground. SRH, batting first, never gained momentum and could only post 152/8 in their 20 overs.
Apart from a 50-run fourth-wicket partnership between Nitish Kumar Reddy (31) and Heinrich Klaasen (27), SRH’s innings lacked intent and application. Skipper Pat Cummins added a late flourish with an unbeaten 22 off just nine deliveries.
SRH’s innings began with the early dismissal of Travis Head for 8 (5 balls), caught sharply by Sai Sudharsan off Siraj. They were 9/1 in the first over. Abhishek Sharma tried to build a foundation with Ishan Kishan, finding boundaries against Ishant Sharma. But Siraj struck again, removing Abhishek for 18 (16 balls), bringing up his 100th IPL wicket.
At the end of the powerplay, SRH was 45/2. They soon reached 50 in the 7th over, but lost Ishan Kishan shortly after for 17 (14 balls), courtesy of Prasidh Krishna.
Klaasen and Nitish counterattacked briefly, taking on Rashid Khan to build a 50-run stand, but Sai Kishore broke through by bowling Klaasen for 27. He then dismissed Nitish Kumar Reddy as well, who made a steady 31.
From 105/5 in 15.1 overs, SRH’s batting collapse continued. Kamindu Mendis fell for just 1, followed by Aniket Verma and Simarjeet Singh, both dismissed by Siraj, who completed his four-wicket haul in style.
Cummins gave SRH a respectable finish with a quick 22* that included a four and a six off Ishant Sharma. SRH ended at 152/8 after 20 overs.
Brief Scores:
SRH: 152/8 (Nitish Kumar Reddy 31, Heinrich Klaasen 27, Mohammed Siraj 4/17)
GT: 153/3 in 16.4 overs (Shubman Gill 61*, Washington Sundar 49, Mohammed Shami 2/28)
