Shubman Gill Breaks Kohli’s SENA Record, Eyes Gavaskar’s Mark!

Gill’s Sensational Form Continues in England, Leading India’s Fightback at Old Trafford

July 27, 2025, in Manchester, UK Shubman Gill, the captain of India, is on fire and is making his mark on cricket’s great history! On Day 4 of the Manchester Test, the youthful star broke Virat Kohli’s remarkable record from the 2014-15 tour of Australia for the most runs scored by an Indian batter in a SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia) tour.

Gill is currently unbeaten on a tough 78, bringing his total in the ongoing “Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy” to an amazing 697 runs. And listen to this: there is still a whole day left in this Fourth Test and a whole final Test match to play at The Oval!

The 25-year-old has now easily beaten Kohli’s amazing 692-run effort from the very competitive 2014–15 Border–Gavaskar Trophy. It’s even more astonishing that Gill’s current series performance is the second-best ever by an Indian skipper in Test cricket, no matter where they are playing. Sunil Gavaskar, who famously hit 732 runs in his memorable series against the West Indies in 1978-79, is the only name remaining ahead of him. Gavaskar did it over six Tests, though, so Gill’s current run in just four (with one left to finish) is genuinely amazing. If Gill keeps hitting like this, Gavaskar’s record could be in big trouble!

Chasing More Milestones: A Hundred Years Away from Bradman’s Elite Club
Shubman There’s no denying that Gill wants to score a lot of runs. He has already scored three centuries in this series. If he can turn his present unbeaten innings into a fourth hundred on Day 5, he will join a very small group of players. Only Don Bradman and Sunil Gavaskar have scored the most hundred as skipper in a single Test series. Gill is just one ton away from joining these cricketing greats.

Virat Kohli’s 655 runs in five home Tests against England in 2016–17 are now also lower on the list of the finest series performances by an Indian captain of all time. Gill’s amazing attitude, perfect timing, and never-ending will to score runs have been clear throughout this tough tour, making him stand out.

Day 4: Gill and Rahul Lead India’s Strong Stand
Earlier on Day 4, India was in a very dangerous situation. The team was still in serious trouble after a shock in their second innings. England’s huge first-innings total of 669 runs had given the hosts a comfortable overall lead of 311.

The Indian second innings started off on a very sad note, with both openers, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudarshan, heading back to the pavilion without scoring. yet KL Rahul and Captain Shubman Gill swiftly got things back on track, putting together a patient yet great partnership of 174 runs.

India ended Day 4 with a score of 174/2, 137 runs behind England. This was thanks to their amazing ability to bounce back. It’s a tough job, but if the Indian team can somehow get a tie or maybe a win on the fifth and final day coming Sunday, it will be a huge accomplishment.

The Indian hitters added 126 runs to their tally in the last session, and England’s bowlers couldn’t break through. KL Rahul, who was not out on 87, and Shubman Gill, who was out on 78, both left the field with their wickets still in place, setting the stage for a dramatic finish. Gill, who was in great form, scored his eighth Test fifty, his fourth against England, off just 77 balls earlier in the session. This showed how good he is and how determined he is.
