Shreyas Iyer Likely Sidelined Until March 2026 Due To Spleen Injury: BCCI Source

India batter Shreyas Iyer is expected to remain out of action until March 2026, a BCCI source told NDTV, following a severe injury he suffered during the third ODI against Australia in late October.

The 30-year-old sustained a spleen laceration accompanied by internal bleeding and was immediately hospitalised in Sydney. Although Iyer has shown steady improvement, he is still under medical supervision and is set to miss India’s upcoming ODI assignments. As per the source, a return before the 2026 IPL season appears unlikely.

On November 1, the Board of Control for Cricket in India confirmed that Iyer had been discharged from the Sydney hospital, with medical specialists in both Australia and India satisfied with his progress. Team doctor Rizwan Khan remained by his side throughout his treatment.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia also expressed the board’s gratitude to Dr. Kouroush Haghigi and his team in Sydney, along with Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala in India, for providing optimal care.

Since his discharge, Iyer has stayed on in Sydney for follow-up consultations. He is expected to return to India soon, where he will undergo several months of rehabilitation to regain full fitness.

Before the injury cut short his season, Iyer scored 72 runs in two ODIs against Australia, including a resilient 61 off 77 balls in Adelaide, forming a crucial century partnership with Rohit Sharma. In 2024, he amassed 496 runs in 10 innings at an impressive average of 49.60, registering five half-centuries with a top score of 79.
