Shopkeeper Allegedly Assaulted In Delhi After Teen Alleges Sale Of Suspected Cow Meat

A grocery shopkeeper was allegedly assaulted by local residents in Delhi’s Vijay Nagar area after a 15-year-old boy filed a complaint, accusing the shop of selling suspected cow meat.

According to officials, the incident came to light after a PCR call was received regarding the sale of suspected cow meat at a shop located in Vijay Nagar Double Storey, falling under the jurisdiction of Model Town Police Station.

The complainant, identified as Simar, a 15-year-old resident of Vijay Nagar, claimed that he had purchased meat from the shop at a price of ₹400 per kg and suspected it to be cow meat.

The shop in question was owned by Chaman Kumar, 44, son of Mukund Prasad and a resident of Kaushik Enclave, Burari.

Following the allegation, members of the public allegedly manhandled the shopkeeper, the police confirmed.

Authorities have stated that the shopkeeper was given medical assistance, and his medical examination is currently underway.

As part of the investigation, police seized meat samples from the shop and have sent them for forensic analysis to determine whether the meat is of cow origin.

Additionally, police teams collected and reviewed CCTV footage from the surrounding area to establish the timeline of events and identify individuals involved in the assault.

Police stated that the situation was under control and no further violence had occurred after the initial confrontation.

“Once the forensic report and full enquiry are complete, appropriate legal action will be taken as per the findings and provisions of law,” the official statement added.
