Shivraj Singh Chouhan To Attend 15th BRICS Agriculture Ministers meeting In Brazil

New Delhi [India]: Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, will head the Indian delegation at the 15th BRICS Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting (AMM), scheduled to take place on April 17 in Brasilia, Brazil.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, the central theme for this year’s meeting is “Promoting Inclusive and Sustainable Agriculture through Cooperation, Innovation, and Equitable Trade among BRICS Countries.”

The meeting will see participation from Agriculture Ministers and senior officials of BRICS member nations, including Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, along with newly inducted members—Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and Iran.

During his visit, Chouhan will hold bilateral talks with key Brazilian counterparts, including Carlos Henrique Baqueta Favaro, Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, and Luiz Paulo Teixeira, Minister of Agrarian Development and Family Farming (MDA), the ministry said.

The discussions will center on deepening collaboration between India and Brazil in agriculture, agri-technology, rural development, and food security.

The Union Minister is also scheduled to meet with leaders of major Brazilian agribusiness firms and representatives of the Brazilian Association of Vegetable Oil Industries in São Paulo. These interactions aim to explore partnership and investment opportunities across the agriculture value chain.

As part of his visit, Chouhan will participate in a tree plantation initiative titled “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” at the Indian Embassy in Brasilia. The campaign, dedicated to raising environmental awareness and honoring the essence of motherhood, is a part of India’s broader green commitment.

He will also engage with the Indian diaspora in São Paulo, recognizing their significant contributions as cultural ambassadors and their role in strengthening Indo-Brazilian relations.

This visit reaffirms India’s dedication to enhancing cooperation with BRICS countries and furthering South-South collaboration in agricultural innovation, sustainability, and resilience.
