Mumbai’s celebrated food and nightlife scene is undergoing a significant change. Shilpa Shetty’s popular Bandra eatery, Bastian, which was a hotspot for Bollywood celebrities, is shutting its doors for good. The announcement has left many fans feeling nostalgic about the iconic venue. The closure coincides with allegations of financial irregularities worth Rs 60 crore involving Shilpa and her husband, businessman Raj Kundra, who posted a series of cryptic messages on social media amid the developments.
In a poignant Instagram post, Shilpa Shetty wrote, “This Thursday marks the end of an era as we bid farewell to one of Mumbai’s most iconic destinations—Bastian Bandra.” She also announced a special farewell event for the restaurant’s final night to celebrate its legacy with loyal patrons.
However, the initial news of the closure caused a frenzy, prompting Shilpa to clarify the situation. She later posted a video with a reassuring message: “No, I am not shutting down Bastian. I promise!” She explained that while the Bandra location is closing, the brand, Bastian Hospitality, is not going anywhere. The decision is part of a strategic move to evolve the brand and expand its footprint.
Shilpa announced two new ventures: a South Indian Mangalorean restaurant named AMMAKAI and a new Bastian Beach Club set to open in Juhu. She emphasized that the Bandra location was simply “the root to our tree called Bastian Hospitality,” and assured fans that their “favourite Bastian is staying, going nowhere!”
