Shekhar Kapur Honoured With Padma Bhushan, Says He’s Grateful To Serve Society And Nation

New Delhi [India] : Acclaimed filmmaker Shekhar Kapur was conferred with the prestigious Padma Bhushan award by President Droupadi Murmu on Monday for his remarkable contributions to the field of art and cinema.

In a heartfelt reaction, Kapur expressed his deep gratitude. “Thank you very much, I am honoured… I hope I can pay the Government back in any way they want, for the good in society and the good in people and the good of the nation,” he said.

Kapur’s daughter, Kaveri, also celebrated the honour on social media. In a touching Instagram Story, she shared a cherished piece of advice from her father:
“My father, when I asked for his advice, always said to me, ‘Your wealth lies not in the money you have earned, but in the respect you have earned.’ Today, as he is honored with the #PadmaBhushan, I feel so blessed to have had a father who showed me the true path. I accept the honor bestowed upon me as a responsibility to continue working towards the good of our society and our nation.”

The award ceremony took place in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior leaders, marking a significant moment in Kapur’s illustrious career.

Known for his impactful storytelling, Kapur has directed landmark films like Bandit Queen, the globally acclaimed Elizabeth, and its Oscar-winning sequel Elizabeth: The Golden Age.
