Sheikh Hasina Verdict Live: Bangladesh on Alert Ahead of ICT Ruling

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) of Bangladesh is set to announce its verdict in the high-profile case against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and former Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun. The trio faces charges of crimes against humanity linked to the 2024 student uprising that led to the fall of the Hasina government.

In the lead-up to the ruling, the interim administration headed by Muhammad Yunus has intensified security measures across Dhaka and adjoining districts. With tensions rising, additional paramilitary troops and police units have been deployed throughout the capital.

Sajeeb Wazed, son and adviser to Sheikh Hasina, warned that Awami League supporters would boycott and obstruct the upcoming February national elections if the current ban on the party is not revoked. He also cautioned that protests could turn violent.

As anticipation builds, Bangladesh has increased security across major cities. The Awami League has called for a nationwide shutdown on Monday, denouncing the tribunal as a “kangaroo court.” Border guards and police forces are visibly patrolling key areas in Dhaka and beyond.

The prosecution has accused Sheikh Hasina of ordering mass killings during the 2024 student protests, including helicopter and drone attacks on demonstrators, the murder of student leader Abu Sayed, and the burning of bodies to hide evidence. The case is supported by an extensive body of documentation: 8,747 pages in total, featuring 2,018 pages of references, 405 pages of seized materials, and a 2,724-page list of victims.

The verdict will determine the fate of Hasina, Kamal, and Al-Mamun—three central figures accused in one of the most significant trials in Bangladesh’s recent history.
