Shehzad Poonawalla Slams Opposition Over Operation Sindoor Criticism, Says Balasaheb Thackeray Would Have Supported Modi

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], May 27: BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla launched a scathing attack on the Opposition, particularly the Shiv Sena (UBT) and Congress, asserting that Balasaheb Thackeray would have lauded the Indian armed forces and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the recently executed Operation Sindoor.

Speaking to ANI in Delhi, Poonawalla said, “If Balasaheb Thackeray had been here, he would not only have thanked the armed forces but also PM Modi for the success of Operation Sindoor. A new normal has been established — it was for the first time that terror hotspots were destroyed inside a nuclear country.”

Attack on Shiv Sena (UBT) and Congress:

Poonawalla accused the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena faction of behaving “like Pakistani rangers” by mocking the government’s diplomatic initiatives. He referenced recent comments by Sanjay Raut, who had dismissed the Centre’s move to send an all-party delegation abroad to present India’s stance on terrorism, calling it a “tour and travel” event.

Targeting Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Poonawalla added, “The last 11 years have been a nightmare for those who support terrorism, corruption, dynasty, and appeasement.”

Context of Operation Sindoor:

The remarks came following Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement in Nanded, Maharashtra, where he emphasized that Operation Sindoor sent a global message — that India will not tolerate threats to its borders, army, or citizens.

Shah also elaborated on the all-party delegation, noting it was formed to globally expose Pakistan’s role in fostering terrorism. He rebuked Opposition criticism, particularly from Shiv Sena (UBT), stating, “They said, ‘Yeh kiski baraat jaa rahi hai?’ But Balasaheb would have praised PM Modi and supported this mission.”

Operation Sindoor: A Diplomatic and Military Statement

Operation Sindoor represents a significant shift in India’s counter-terrorism policy. According to the government, it involves targeted actions beyond India’s borders and is backed by diplomatic outreach through multi-party parliamentary delegations, aiming to build international support.

Conclusion:

As the BJP mounts an aggressive defence of its security policies, the issue of Operation Sindoor has become a political flashpoint, with ruling party leaders portraying it as a symbol of India’s assertive global stance — and accusing the Opposition of undermining national interests.
