Kochi (Kerala) [India]: In the wake of the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor visited the grieving family of N Ramachandran, one of the victims, and called on Indians to resist religious divisions promoted by terrorism.
Tharoor, speaking to media after the visit, commended the family’s strength and urged the nation not to succumb to the divisive aims of terror outfits.
“The family has conducted themselves with such grace, dignity and decency that this must be acknowledged and praised. They made a very, very moving statement during the funeral. They have done something which is so important for all of India to understand that we cannot let the terrorists decide who we should be. We cannot let the terrorists who want to divide us on the grounds of religion succeed in dividing us,” Tharoor said.
He further added:
“I think for our country and for the future of our country, we cannot let the terrorists change us. We cannot let the terrorists make us into what they want us to be and what they want to show the world,” the Congress MP asserted.
The attack on April 22 in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baisaran valley of Pahalgam claimed the lives of 26 tourists, including 25 Indian nationals and one from Nepal. It is one of the deadliest attacks since the Pulwama attack in 2019, which killed 40 CRPF personnel.
In response, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high-level security meeting on April 29, attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, CDS Gen. Anil Chauhan, and the chiefs of the three armed forces.
Sources confirmed that the PM expressed full confidence in the capabilities of the armed forces and assured them of complete operational freedom to determine the response’s timing, targets, and tactics.
