New Delhi: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor took a much-needed vacation from his busy schedule this weekend to recover from a cold and cough by watching Netflix. His sister Smita Tharoor strongly suggested that he see the hugely talked-about Bollywood spoof “The Bads of Bollywood.”*
The experienced politician was really impressed and now only has good things to say about the series. It is Aryan Khan’s first time directing, and it was made by his father Shah Rukh Khan’s company, Red Chillies Entertainment.
A Work of Great Bravery and Humor
Tharoor said on X (previously Twitter) that the series was “one of the best things I have ever treated myself to: absolute #OTT GOLD!”
The Congress leader said in a long review that the series “may take some time to grow on the viewer,” but it would eventually make them “irresistibly hooked.” He praised the creative team for their bold idea and sharp execution:
“The writing is sharp, the direction is brave, and the sheer audacity of this satire is just what Bollywood needed.” Tharoor commented, “A genius, often funny, sometimes moving, and always unflinching look beyond the glamour, sending up every cinematic cliche with razor-like wit—and a series of insider jokes that let the audience into the act and behind the scenes.”
A Special Note for Dad and Son
The review praised the first-time director in a distinctive way. Tharoor wrote directly to Aryan Khan:
“Take a bow, Aryan Khan. You made a masterpiece: ‘The Ba***ds Of Bollywood’ is great!”
He ended his post with a poignant, personal message for superstar Shah Rukh Khan, saying, “Let me say: you must be so proud!!”
A Lot of Stars and a Lot of Drama
Last month, Netflix released “The Ba***ds of Bollywood,” which stars Lakshya, Sahher Bambba, Bobby Deol, Raghav Juyal, Aanya Singh, Manish Chaudhari, Mona Singh, Vijayant Kohli, Manoj Pahwa, Gautami Kapoor, and Rajat Bedi, among others. The show is well-known for its funny look at what goes on behind the scenes in Bollywood and for having a lot of surprise guest stars from the business.
But the series has also been in the news for the wrong reasons lately. Sameer Wankhede, a former NCB officer, sued the show and Netflix for defamation, saying that one of the characters was a parody of him.
