Shashi Tharoor Decodes Trump’s “Dead Economy” Dig — Just Bluster Or A Warning Worth Heeding?

Pune, India: Shashi Tharoor, a member of Congress, says that India should stay focused on its own interests, especially in a world where big powers are making things less stable instead of more stable. Tharoor talked about a lot of things at a recent event in Pune, including what President Donald Trump said about India recently.

Tharoor said that Trump’s claim that India has a “dead economy” shouldn’t be taken at face value. “When he says your economy is dead, it’s like a kid on the playground saying your mom is ugly. You shouldn’t take that seriously. He said, “It’s meant to be an insult, not meant to be taken literally.” He did, however, stress that people should not take Trump literally, but they should take him seriously because of his position and the possible effects of his ideas. Tharoor said that Trump’s recent tariff policies have had a big influence on the world, and India has felt it too.

The senior Congress leader talked about his new book, The Living Constitution, with Crossword CEO Aakash Gupta. He talked on how the credibility of international organizations like the UN is fading because major states are getting involved in wars.

Tharoor said that India’s primary priority should be the health and safety of its people, which means focusing on growth, security, and prosperity. He talked about current threats to India’s borders from both China and Pakistan and said that India had to be ready to “robustly defend ourselves without putting our development and growth at risk.”

He ended by saying that India needs to make its presence known on the world scene and be one of the “rule makers and not just the rule takers.” He was sure that India would be able to get through today’s unpredictable environment if it knew what was most important to it. Tharoor also talked about his recent trip to the US as part of a delegation to discuss “Operation Sindoor.” He said that the message was “well received” and respected.
