Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], April 13: Veteran actress Sharmila Tagore has returned to Bengali cinema after nearly two decades with the film ‘Puratwan’, marking a deeply emotional and celebrated comeback.
On Sunday, her daughter Soha Ali Khan expressed pride and admiration for her mother’s return to the silver screen, describing her as “an emotion.”
Taking to Instagram, Soha shared behind-the-scenes glimpses and stills from the film and wrote, “Celebrating Amma in #puratawn — her wonderful return to Bengali cinema after almost two decades. As someone once told me — for us, Sharmila Thakur is not a person, she’s an emotion.”
‘Puratwan’ has already garnered critical acclaim, winning Best Feature Film at the Indian Film Festival of Houston. Sharmila also won Best Actress, and the film was awarded Best Film at the Washington DC South Asian Film Festival.
In the film, Indraneil Sengupta stars as the male lead, playing Rituparna Sengupta’s on-screen husband.
Sharmila Tagore began her acting journey at just 14 with Satyajit Ray’s classic ‘The World of Apu’ and went on to become a celebrated name in both Bengali and Hindi cinema. Her illustrious career includes iconic films like ‘Kashmir Ki Kali’, ‘Aradhana’, ‘Amar Prem’, ‘Daag’, and ‘Safar’. She has shared the screen with legends including Dilip Kumar, Rajesh Khanna, Dharmendra, Shammi Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, and Sanjeev Kumar.
Her comeback is being warmly received by fans and industry veterans alike, marking a new chapter in her legendary journey.
