Shariful Islam Shehzad Files Bail Plea In Saif Ali Khan Attack Case

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], March 29: Shariful Islam Shehzad, the accused in the January attack on actor Saif Ali Khan during an attempted theft at his Bandra residence, has filed a bail plea in the Mumbai Sessions Court.

Shehzad, through his lawyer Ajay Gawali, has claimed innocence, arguing that the case against him is fabricated. His plea further states that the FIR was improperly registered, that he has fully cooperated with the investigation, and that all evidence is already with the police, eliminating any risk of tampering.

Current Legal Proceedings

  • The case is currently being heard in the Bandra Magistrate Court.
  • It will be transferred to the Sessions Court once the police file the chargesheet.
  • As of now, the Bandra Police have yet to submit the chargesheet.

Shehzad is accused of breaking into Saif Ali Khan’s home on January 16 with the intent to rob. During the altercation, the actor suffered serious injuries to his thoracic spine and other parts of his body.

  • Saif was hospitalized at Lilavati Hospital for five days, receiving treatment before being discharged on January 21.
  • In February, Mumbai Police claimed they had strong evidence against Shehzad, including his illegal entry from Bangladesh and movement through Kolkata before reaching Mumbai.

Police Confident in Case Against Accused

Earlier, Additional Commissioner of Police Paramjit Singh Dahiya dismissed rumors about fingerprint mismatches, stating:

“Whenever an accusation is made, multiple pieces of evidence are collected. We have oral, physical, and technical evidence against the accused… We have caught the right person.”

The Mumbai Sessions Court is expected to take up Shehzad’s bail plea hearing soon.
