New Delhi [India], March 23: Shardul Thakur has been signed by the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as a replacement for Mohsin Khan, who has been ruled out of the 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Thakur, who remained unsold during the IPL 2025 auction, will join the LSG squad for their opening match in Visakhapatnam against Delhi Capitals (DC) on March 24, according to an IPL media advisory.
Thakur, who was signed from the Registered Available Player Pool (RAPP) at his reserve price of INR 2 crore, will add valuable depth to the LSG squad. Mohsin Khan, who represents Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket, sustained a tear in the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) of his right knee during the Vijay Hazare Trophy on December 31, 2024. As a result, he is undergoing rehabilitation and will work closely with LSG’s support staff on his recovery process.
Thakur, known for his all-round skills, has played for five IPL franchises in the past: Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Delhi Capitals (DC), Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings, PBKS), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and Rising Pune Supergiants. With 95 IPL matches under his belt, Shardul has taken 67 wickets, averaging 27.87. He has also been effective with the bat, boasting a strike rate of 138.91 in IPL cricket.
Apart from Mohsin Khan, fast bowlers Mayank Yadav, Avesh Khan, and Akash Deep are also unavailable as they are currently undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
