Kolkata: Team India fast bowler Mohammed Shami showed how good he is by taking five wickets for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy, leading his team to win over Gujarat. The performance came after a lot of talk about why he wasn’t picked for the ODI series against Australia, and it was a strong answer to the selectors.
Shami, who is said to have had a furious argument with BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar, seemed to have moved on from the topic as he led Bengal’s bowling attack with skill and control.
After the game, the senior pacer answered queries about his return to India, choosing to be calm and avoid any controversy.
“Thanks to you guys, I’m always in some kind of trouble (laughs). “It’s a mistake…” Shami stated.
Shami was happy with how he played and how fit he was when he returned to competitive cricket after having surgery on his ankle.
“I played a game against MP 11 months ago, and I’m playing this one now.” “I feel good, but the most important thing is that your team is with you right now, when you’re competing,” he remarked.
The veteran pacer said he is in great shape and ready to play in all forms, which shows he is still committed to the national squad.
“There is a lot of hard work involved, and I think luck plays a factor too. Everyone wants to play for their nation. According to PTI, he told reporters, “So, I’m ready for that (again).”
“My goal is to stay in shape and always be ready to play for the Indian team.” I shall keep doing my job on the field; the rest is up to the selectors.
Shami also talked on how happy he was to get back to normal after a long time of being sick.
“It’s a relief.” He remarked, “It feels great mentally and physically because you are coming back from such a hard time (injury) and you stay on the ground after that.”
“After that, all the things… First came the Ranji Trophy, then the domestic season, then white-ball cricket, then the IPL, the Champions Trophy, the Duleep Trophy, and now these two games. So, the beat and the flow were there. It feels like cricket is still in me.
The strong spell shows Shami’s drive to get back on the Indian team and reminds the selectors how valuable he is as one of the country’s best fast bowlers.
