Shahid Kapoor Opens Up About Going Bald For Roles: ‘Like Childhood Mundan’

New Delhi [India], January 28: Shahid Kapoor is set to return to the action genre with his upcoming film Deva, where he plays a fearless cop with a bold “massy” look. Known for his drastic hair makeovers for various roles, Shahid has always embraced the challenge of transforming his appearance. From going bald for Haider to experimenting with messy hairstyles, long locks, and different beard styles, the actor has never shied away from altering his look to suit his characters.

In a recent interview with ANI, Shahid discussed his approach to hair transformations, revealing that as an actor, it’s essential to be willing to “sacrifice” the physical traits most closely associated with oneself. He explained how stepping away from these “crutches” helped him grow as an actor. “Hair has always been a big part of my personality, especially in the beginning when I had a lot of it and that boyish look. But as an actor, you learn to let go of things that you think define you,” he said. “When you start letting go of things that boost your confidence, like thinking your hair or eyes are your strongest features, you realize your true confidence doesn’t come from those aspects.”

Shahid went on to explain that his journey as an actor has been about rediscovering himself, and roles that challenge him to do so are key to his growth. “To be a true actor, you need to let go of those things you rely on. Something stronger will emerge from you, and it won’t depend on physical traits. Haider was a turning point for me in that regard, and I’ve tried to do the same in films like Kaminey. It’s all about my relationship with myself, and I’m always looking for opportunities to explore that,” he said.

When asked if he ever hesitated before shaving his head for a role, Shahid laughed and said, “Jab bachpan mein bachhe ka mundan hota hai, tab toh koi nahin puchta hai ki baal wapas nahin aayenge. I think your hair grows back better after you shave it off—it’s what they say. I never had any fears or doubts about it.”

Shahid’s Deva marks his return to the big screen after nearly a year, following his last appearance in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, co-starring Kriti Sanon. Directed by Rosshan Andrrews and produced by Zee Studios and Siddharth Roy Kapur, Deva also stars Pooja Hegde as an investigative journalist.

Deva is set to release in theatres worldwide on January 31.
