The Indian film industry is bracing for a seismic shift as Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan is reportedly set to join forces with the legendary Rajinikanth for the high-octane sequel, Jailer 2.
In what is being described as an “extended cameo,” the 60-year-old superstar will reportedly don the khaki uniform once again, playing a pivotal police officer. This collaboration marks their most significant on-screen reunion since Rajinikanth’s special appearance as Chitti in SRK’s 2011 film Ra.One.
Filming for Khan’s portions is expected to commence this month, with a swift seven-to-eight-day schedule designed to wrap up the entire production. Director Nelson Dilipkumar has assembled a massive ensemble for the sequel, including returning stars like Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar, alongside new additions such as Mithun Chakraborty, S.J. Suryah, and Vijay Sethupathi. While official confirmation from Sun Pictures is still pending, industry insiders suggest that Khan’s character will act as a “trusted confidante” to Rajinikanth’s ‘Tiger’ Muthuvel Pandian, potentially shifting the narrative in a crucial climax sequence.
The buzz around Jailer 2 coincides with a busy year for Shah Rukh Khan, who is also gearing up for his solo action-thriller King, scheduled for a Christmas 2026 release. With Jailer 2 eyeing an August 12, 2026 theatrical window, fans may witness the “King of Bollywood” and the “Thalaivar” dominate the box office twice in one year. Produced by Kalanithi Maran and featuring a score by Anirudh Ravichander, the sequel is already being touted as a potential Rs 1,000 crore contender.
