Amit Shah Attends Assam Rifles HQ Relocation In Mizoram, Calls It A Historic Milestone

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday attended the relocation ceremony of the Assam Rifles Headquarters from Central Aizawl to Zokhawsang, calling it a significant milestone in the Indian government’s commitment to Mizoram’s development.

Addressing the gathering, Shah emphasized that the relocation was more than just an administrative decision—it was a reflection of the government’s responsibility toward the Mizo people. The demand for shifting the Assam Rifles HQ had been ongoing for over 35 years due to Mizoram’s unique topography.

“This demand, which has been around for 30-35 years, is now set to be fulfilled due to an important decision by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This is not just an administrative decision but a symbol of the Indian government’s responsibility towards the Mizo people,” Shah stated.

Highlighting the Modi government’s efforts in the region, Shah noted that the administration has been working tirelessly for the past decade to boost tourism, technology, agriculture, and entrepreneurship in the northeast. He also stressed the role of PM Modi in ensuring peace in the region, pointing out that Modi had visited the northeast 78 times since taking office—compared to only 21 visits by all previous Prime Ministers combined before 2014.

“From tourism to technology, agriculture to entrepreneurship, the Modi government is establishing new dimensions of development in every sector of the northeast,” Shah said.

He assured Mizoram’s people of the BJP-led government’s commitment to making the state more developed, peaceful, secure, and beautiful, adding that PM Modi himself was overseeing this progress.

“I want to assure the people of Mizoram on behalf of the Government of India that the BJP-led Indian government is committed to a developed, peaceful, secure, and beautiful Mizoram, and Modi ji is personally overseeing this progress,” he added.

The relocation of the Assam Rifles Headquarters to Zokhawsang is expected to mark a new chapter in Aizawl’s history, following the establishment of the city’s first military camp in 1890.
