Severe Heatwave Predicted in Rajasthan; IMD Warns Of 46°C In Bikaner, While Dharamshala Sees Rare June Snowfall

Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], June 7: Rajasthan is bracing for a severe heatwave in the coming days, with temperatures expected to soar significantly, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

IMD official Radheshyam Sharma stated that a fresh spell of heatwave conditions will begin in western Rajasthan, especially in the Bikaner division. “The weather will remain dry across most parts of the state, and temperatures are expected to rise by 2 to 4°C. In some areas of the Bikaner division, maximum temperatures could reach 45–46°C between June 8 and 10,” Sharma said.

He added that strong, dusty winds with speeds of 30–40 km/h are expected over the Bikaner region and adjoining Shekhawati area over the next 3–4 days. “Jaipur will see partly cloudy skies with highs of around 38–40°C, but no rainfall is expected across the state in the next week,” he noted.

Residents are being advised to take precautionary measures against the extreme heat, especially in western Rajasthan.

In contrast, the Dhauladhar mountain ranges in Himachal Pradesh experienced rare snowfall on Thursday, causing a sudden drop in temperatures. Such snowfall in June is highly unusual.

In Dharamshala, the minimum temperature dropped to 16°C, while the maximum was recorded at 21°C. The region has seen daily rainfall for the past week, which has brought relief to residents and boosted the local tourism sector. Tour operators and hoteliers in the Kangra Valley are hopeful that the pleasant weather will attract more visitors.
