New Delhi [India], January 19: In a significant political shift ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, several Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders and members joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday. The joining ceremony took place in the presence of BJP state president Virendraa Sachdeva.
Among those who joined the BJP was Kapil Naagar, a former AAP candidate who contested twice from Kamla Nagar ward in Model Town. Over 100 AAP workers also switched allegiance to the BJP.
Additionally, several AAP workers joined the BJP in the presence of BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri, the party’s candidate from Kalkaji constituency for the upcoming Delhi elections.
Bidhuri addressed the new joiners, expressing gratitude and emphasizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India by 2047. “There is no greater fortune than being a part of Modi ji’s family. We all must work together to achieve India’s development,” he said.
He also criticized AAP Chief Minister candidate Atishi, accusing her of neglecting the constituency for four and a half years and only seeking votes now. “People are facing difficulties—streets are in poor condition, the sewerage system is malfunctioning, and drinking water is contaminated,” he stated. Bidhuri is contesting against Atishi in the Kalkaji Assembly constituency.
Delhi will go to the polls on February 5, with vote counting scheduled for February 8. The upcoming election is shaping up to be a three-way contest between the ruling AAP, BJP, and Congress. While AAP dominated the 2020 assembly elections, winning 62 out of 70 seats, the BJP secured 8 seats, and Congress failed to win any seats.
