Seers From Russia And Ukraine Join In ‘Kirtan’ At Maha Kumbh In Prayagraj

Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), January 23: Seers from Russia and Ukraine gathered at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj on Thursday morning to perform a ‘kirtan’ and prayers, symbolizing spiritual unity and cross-cultural harmony. The devotional chants and traditional rituals held at the event highlighted the universal values celebrated at the Maha Kumbh, providing a platform for cultural exchange.

Mahant Sanat Kumar spoke about the significance of the gathering, stating that the ceremony included the Guru Parampara Puja of Lord Dattatreya, followed by Aarti and Bhajans dedicated to Lord Shiva and Lord Ganesha. Guests also joined in, singing bhajans in reverence to Lord Shiva and Lord Rama. “This is a symbol of unity, showing that Indian and Western cultures can come together,” he said, emphasizing the importance of cooperation between cultures.

Kumar also expressed a message of global peace, particularly in light of the ongoing Ukraine-Russia conflict, stating, “From the holy land of this Kumbh, I pray for peace in all wars, especially the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. As a saint, I advocate for world welfare and urge people to maintain peace.”

Earlier, BJP leader Nitin Patel visited Prayagraj for the Mahakumbh 2025, describing it as a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity” for followers of Sanatan Dharma and all Indians. He added, “The Mahakumbh will benefit the state economically, and should not be viewed from a political perspective.”

With the festival in full swing, over 97.3 million devotees, Kalpavasis, and seers have already bathed in the sacred waters of Triveni Sangam. Authorities anticipate the total number of participants will reach 100 million by the end of today, the 11th day of the festival. On Thursday alone, more than 16.98 lakh people took the holy dip.

The Uttar Pradesh government estimates that over 45 crore people will attend this year’s Maha Kumbh, as preparations intensify for the upcoming Mauni Amavasya on January 29, when even larger crowds are expected.

In addition, various prominent figures, including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who took the holy dip earlier this week, are marking their participation in the spiritual event.
