Security Tightened In Mysuru Ahead Of BJP Protest Over Udayagiri Stone-Throwing Incident

Mysuru (Karnataka) [India], February 24: Security has been heightened in Mysuru, and prohibitory orders have been imposed as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prepares to protest against the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government. The protest is related to a stone-throwing incident that took place outside the Udayagiri police station earlier this month, triggered by a derogatory social media post that led to unrest in the city.

The BJP, which was denied permission to hold the protest, approached a court seeking approval. Key BJP leaders, including State BJP President B Y Vijayendra, Leader of Opposition R Ashoka, and other senior party figures, were expected to participate in the demonstration.

Visuals from the JSS Circle in Mysuru showed heavy security deployment as the authorities braced for the protest. Vijayendra criticized the Congress government, saying that similar incidents had occurred in other parts of Karnataka in the past.

“The protest has been called by the Rashtriya Suraksha Andolan Committee against the Congress government. It is a protest against the appeasement politics of the ruling party,” Vijayendra told ANI. He further added, “This is not the first time this has happened. It has happened previously in other areas. Thousands of Hindu workers will gather here in Mysuru to protest against the Congress government’s appeasement politics.”

Vijayendra expressed hope that the court would rule in favor of the BJP’s right to protest. He also emphasized that if the state government did not protect Hindus, Hindu organizations would be forced to take action against the Congress government.

The unrest in Mysuru was sparked by a derogatory social media post on February 11, leading to a violent mob attacking the Udayagiri police station. Seven policemen were injured during the attack, and vehicles were damaged. The police arrested the individual responsible for the post, but tensions remained high, with concerns that the accused might be released soon. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had directed the police to take strict action against those responsible for the violence.
