Security measures have been intensified along the Ambala-Delhi border in anticipation of the Delhi March announced by farmers. Police have set up barricades, as farmers plan to leave from the Shambhu Border for Delhi at 1 pm.
Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher provided updates on the ongoing protest, saying, “The march has entered its 297th day and the indefinite hunger strike at the Khanauri border has entered its 11th day. At 1 pm, a ‘jatha’ of 101 farmers will move towards Delhi from the Shambhu Border.”
Separately, 34 farmers were detained in Noida on Wednesday night as they headed from Zero Point to Rashtriya Dalit Prerna Sthal without permission for their protest. Noida Police confirmed, “34 farmers were detained late night, who were going from zero point to Rashtriya Dalit Prerna Sthal in Noida, to hold protest without taking permission. After taking into custody, they were sent to jail.”
In light of the ongoing farmer agitation in Noida and Greater Noida, the Uttar Pradesh government has constituted a five-member committee to address the farmers’ concerns. According to an official statement, the committee will be chaired by IAS Anil Kumar Sagar, Principal Secretary of Infrastructure and Industrial Development in Uttar Pradesh.
Other members of the committee include Piyush Verma, Sanjay Khatri, Somya Srivastava, and Kapil Singh. This focused team has been tasked with presenting its report and recommendations to the government within a month.
The Uttar Pradesh government’s initiative underscores its commitment to addressing farmers’ grievances systematically. The protests revolve around demands for compensation, benefits, and a legal guarantee for the Minimum Support Price (MSP).
Earlier on December 3, Uttar Pradesh police had detained several farmers protesting for these demands.
