Security Tightened At Raj Bhavan After Threat Email To West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose

Kolkata: Security was significantly tightened at Kolkata’s Lok Bhavan (Raj Bhavan) late Thursday night after West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose received a threatening email allegedly warning of a blast and posing a threat to his life, officials said.

According to an official statement from the Governor’s office, the email contained a message stating “will blast him”, triggering an immediate security alert. In view of the seriousness of the threat, the matter was promptly reported to the Union Home Ministry.

Enhanced Security Measures in Place

Following the threat, security around the Governor—who is under Z-plus category security cover—has been strengthened. The West Bengal Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) are working in close coordination to ensure his safety.

A midnight meeting of senior security officials responsible for the Governor’s protection was convened to assess the situation and reinforce existing security arrangements.

Officials confirmed that this was not the first such threat received by Governor Bose, as similar messages had been sent in the past as well.

Investigation Underway

Authorities are currently investigating the origin and authenticity of the threat email. Further details are awaited as the probe continues.

BJP Attacks TMC Government Over Law and Order

Reacting strongly to the incident, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Amit Malviya criticised the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) government, alleging a complete breakdown of law and order in the state.

“Welcome to Mamata Banerjee’s regime, where even the Governor is not safe. Law and order has completely collapsed in West Bengal,” Malviya said.

He further alleged that the Chief Minister, who also holds the Home portfolio, was preoccupied with protecting those accused in financial crimes.
“The Home Minister, Mamata Banerjee, is busy snatching incriminating files from the ED to protect a private firm accused of coal smuggling and money laundering. Mamata Banerjee is an unmitigated disaster,” he added.

Backdrop of Political Turmoil

The threat comes amid intense political drama in West Bengal. Earlier on Thursday, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reached the offices of political consultancy firm I-PAC while the Enforcement Directorate (ED) was conducting search operations linked to the alleged coal smuggling case.

The chief minister questioned the ED’s actions and alleged that the central agency had seized party-related materials, including hard disks, candidate lists and strategic documents. She accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of misusing central agencies for political purposes.

Protest Announced

Amid the escalating confrontation between the BJP and TMC, Mamata Banerjee is scheduled to lead a protest in Kolkata on January 9 against the ED raids, as the state gears up for Assembly elections in the first half of this year.
