NEW DELHI – A seven-year-old kid is thought to have fallen into an open drain in the Welcome neighborhood of northeast Delhi on Friday. This was a sad event. The police say that the child was chasing a kite near the Lakdi Market Puliya when the event happened.
People who were passing by promptly called the police, and a team from the Welcome police station and the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) started a search and rescue effort. But Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Northeast Ashish Mishra said that the operation was put on hold on Friday night since there wasn’t enough light. The search started again on Saturday morning, and rescue personnel are still going through the drain.
This incident has once again shown how dangerous it is to have open drains in the capital, which have caused a number of such catastrophes in the past. Local residents are encouraging the government to take urgent action to stop similar incidents from happening again while the hunt for the toddler goes on.
