The spy thriller Dhurandhar has become a nationwide sensation since its release on December 5. Directed by Aditya Dhar, the film features a powerhouse cast including Ranveer Singh, R. Madhavan, and Akshaye Khanna. Among the film’s most talked-about moments is an emotionally charged scene involving Saumya Tandon, who plays the wife of Akshaye Khanna’s character.
An Authentic Moment of Pain
Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, Saumya shared behind-the-scenes (BTS) insights into her character’s pivotal entry scene. The sequence depicts her character’s raw grief and fury following the death of their son—a tragedy she blames on her husband.
Saumya revealed that the slap seen on screen was entirely real. While she initially hoped to “cheat” the shot, director Aditya Dhar insisted on authenticity to capture the gravity of the moment.
“I felt everything at once—anger towards my husband for being the reason behind our son’s death, helpless desperation, and the deep, shared pain between us,” Saumya wrote. “And yes, I slapped Akshaye once—for real—during his close-up. My breakdown close-up was done in a single take.”
Living the Character
In addition to the slap, Saumya shared a second image from a prayer meeting scene. She expressed how the emotional weight of the role stayed with her long after the cameras stopped rolling, noting that the performance “came straight from the heart.”
The film, inspired by real-life events such as the 2001 Parliament attack and the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, follows an Indian spy named Hamza (Ranveer Singh) as he infiltrates a dangerous gang in Pakistan.
Looking Ahead
Fans won’t have to wait long for the continuation of this saga. While the first installment continues to dominate the box office, the second part of Dhurandhar is already scheduled for a theatrical release on March 19, 2026.
