Washington DC [US], May 23 : Despite her character’s on-screen death in Scream 2, actress Sarah Michelle Gellar has expressed a strong desire to return to the Scream franchise for its upcoming seventh instalment, according to Deadline.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Gellar revealed she had hoped to be part of Kevin Williamson’s Scream 7, but was never contacted for a role. “I’m not in Scream 7. I tried to get in Scream 7, nobody wanted me,” she said, adding, “They were bringing everybody back. I kept thinking I would get a call, I didn’t get a call.”
Pointing to other Scream alumni like Skeet Ulrich and Matthew Lillard, who have returned despite their characters’ supposed demises, Gellar joked, “I’m just saying, I’m waiting for my call.”
Gellar memorably played Cici Cooper, a sober sorority sister who was thrown off a terrace by Ghostface in Scream 2 (1997). That same year, she also starred as Helen Shivers in I Know What You Did Last Summer—another fan-favorite horror role she previously ruled out returning to.
While Gellar may not be confirmed for Scream 7, actors David Arquette and Scott Foley are set to reprise their roles. Kevin Williamson, who penned the original Scream, will take the director’s chair for the new instalment. Paramount has scheduled the film’s release for February 27, 2026.
