Sanju Samson Slams Unbeaten 97 as India Seal Semi-Final Spot in ICC T20 WC 2026

Sanju Samson rose to the occasion with a breathtaking unbeaten 97 to guide India into the semi-finals of the ICC T20 World Cup after a thrilling Super 8 clash against West Indies cricket team at Eden Gardens.

Chasing a daunting 196 in what was effectively a knockout encounter, India lost early wickets with Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan departing cheaply. With pressure mounting, Samson anchored the innings and counterattacked in style.

Powerplay Assault Sets the Tone

When West Indies introduced Akeal Hosein during the powerplay, Samson shifted gears immediately, smashing two sixes and a boundary in a 17-run over to kickstart India’s chase. Despite wickets falling at the other end, he maintained composure and ensured India stayed ahead of the required rate.

After a brief consolidation at 53/2, Samson accelerated again, dispatching Jason Holder and Gudakesh Motie to the boundary before taking on Romario Shepherd with a towering six and a crisp four.

Milestone in 26 Balls

Samson brought up his half-century in just 26 balls, drawing loud applause from the Kolkata crowd and the Indian dressing room. He carried his bat through the innings, finishing unbeaten on 97 and sealing India’s semi-final berth.

India will now face England cricket team in the semi-final at Wankhede on Thursday.
