Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India]: Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson has been fined Rs 24 lakh after his team was found guilty of maintaining a slow over-rate during their IPL 2025 clash against Gujarat Titans (GT) on Wednesday at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
This marks the Royals’ second offence under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate regulations. The IPL confirmed the penalty in an official statement on Thursday.
“Rajasthan Royals Captain Sanju Samson has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No. 23 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad,” the league stated.
In addition to Samson’s fine, each of the other playing members, including the Impact Player, will be fined either Rs 6 lakh or 25% of their match fees, whichever is lesser.
The Royals were earlier penalised for the same offence in a match against Chennai Super Kings at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati last month. At that time, Riyan Parag was captaining the team in Samson’s absence due to injury and was fined Rs 12 lakh.
“As this was his team’s second offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct… Samson was fined Rs 24 lakhs,” the statement added.
The fine came on the heels of a disappointing outing for Rajasthan, who suffered their third loss of the season after being comprehensively beaten by Gujarat Titans. Despite winning the toss and electing to bowl, the Royals were unable to contain the Titans, who posted a daunting 217/6.
In response, Rajasthan struggled to build momentum and were bowled out for 159 in 19.2 overs, conceding a 58-run loss.
