New Delhi [India], January 9: As support for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) grows within the INDIA bloc ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, AAP MP Sanjay Singh emphasized that his party is the “only one in Delhi capable of defeating the BJP.”
“Everyone’s goal is to defeat the BJP. AAP is the only party in Delhi that can accomplish this. That’s why we are receiving support from other parties, and we are grateful for it,” Singh told ANI.
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Samajwadi Party have expressed their support for AAP in the upcoming election. While Congress and AAP are both part of the INDIA alliance, they are contesting against each other in this race.
Earlier, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal thanked West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC leader Mamata Banerjee for her backing. “TMC has announced support to AAP in Delhi elections. I am personally grateful to Mamta Didi. Thank you, Didi, for your continuous support and blessings through both good and bad times,” Kejriwal posted on X.
In response, senior TMC leader Derek O’Brien tweeted, “We have your back, Aam Aadmi Party.”
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena UBT MP Sanjay Raut shared his view that the AAP holds more influence in Delhi than Congress. “While Congress is a major party in the country, AAP has emerged as the dominant force in Delhi. The mood is that AAP, under Kejriwal, is set to win the elections by a large margin,” Raut stated in Mumbai.
“I am saddened that our party, or Uddhav Thackeray, is at odds with Congress and AAP. Congress, as the leader of the INDIA bloc, should support leaders like Kejriwal rather than condemning them,” he added.
The Delhi Assembly elections will take place on February 5, with vote counting scheduled for February 8. Key dates include the last date for filing nominations on January 17, scrutiny on January 18, and withdrawal of candidatures by January 20. In the 2020 elections, AAP emerged victorious with 62 out of 70 seats, while BJP secured only eight.
