Mumbai, April 15 : Comedian Samay Raina and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia appeared before the Maharashtra Cyber office in Mumbai on Tuesday to record their statements in connection with an ongoing case related to alleged obscenity on the YouTube show India’s Got Latent.
The duo was summoned after a complaint was filed alleging the promotion of vulgar and inappropriate content on the show. The controversy stems from remarks made during a recent episode, particularly by Allahbadia, which went viral and sparked widespread criticism online.
Prior to this, Samay Raina had visited the Guwahati Crime Branch to give his statement, as the investigation spans multiple jurisdictions. Joint Police Commissioner Ankur Jain of Guwahati confirmed that Raina was questioned by the investigating officer and cooperated with the inquiry.
The case also involves other notable internet personalities, including YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani and influencer Apoorva Makhija, all of whom have recorded their statements with the Guwahati Crime Branch.
Ranveer Allahbadia, facing backlash over his controversial comment about a contestant’s family, publicly apologized. In a statement, he admitted the remark was in poor taste: “My comment wasn’t just inappropriate — it wasn’t even funny. Comedy is not my forte. I am just here to say sorry.”
Addressing concerns about the influence of digital creators on young viewers, he added, “Family is the last thing I would ever disrespect. I will be more mindful of how I use my platform going forward.”
The case continues to draw attention amid growing discussions about content responsibility and the role of digital influencers in shaping public discourse.
