New Delhi [India]: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Friday hit back at former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over his allegations that the Haryana government “poisoned” Delhi’s water supply. Saini accused Kejriwal of failing to clean the Yamuna despite receiving substantial funds from the central government.
Visiting the Yamuna Ghat in Wazirabad, Delhi, CM Saini dismissed Kejriwal’s accusations and held him responsible for pollution in the river.
“If Kejriwal is talking about mass genocide, then he himself is responsible for it. He is committing mass genocide in Faridabad by allowing dirty and chemical-laden water to flow into the Yamuna. Instead of cleaning it, he is blaming others,” Saini said.
He further claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had allocated ₹8,500 crore for building sewage treatment plants (STPs), but Kejriwal failed to construct them, while allegedly spending ₹15 crore on an STP for his official residence, which he referred to as “Sheesh Mahal.”
Water Quality Comparison
To support his claims, Saini presented two jars of Yamuna water—one collected from the Delhi-Haryana border (Palla Ghat) and another from Wazirabad in Delhi—highlighting a stark difference in water quality.
“Kejriwal is making baseless allegations to hide his failures. He promised to clean the Yamuna but has only contributed to making it dirtier. We are supplying clean water, yet Delhi’s residents are being forced to drink contaminated water. Even after 10 years, Kejriwal has not been able to clean the Yamuna. He should apologize to the people of Delhi and Haryana,” Saini asserted.
Kejriwal’s Response
Meanwhile, Arvind Kejriwal congratulated Delhi residents for their “struggle” in stopping the flow of contaminated water. In a post on X, he claimed that ammonia levels in Delhi’s water supply had dropped from 7 ppm to 2 ppm, averting a major water crisis.
“Many congratulations to the people of Delhi. Our struggle bore fruit. The poisonous water being sent to Delhi has now stopped. The amount of ammonia in the water coming to Delhi has decreased from 7 ppm to 2 ppm. If we had not raised our voice and struggled, half of Delhi’s population would not have received water today. We saved Delhi from a huge water crisis,” Kejriwal wrote.
Legal Action & Election Commission Notice
Kejriwal has also taken the matter to the Election Commission, demanding a criminal case against CM Nayab Singh Saini over the alleged contamination of Yamuna water.
Earlier this week, Kejriwal accused the BJP-led Haryana government of deliberately “poisoning” the Yamuna water supplied to Delhi to cause harm to residents and shift blame onto the AAP government.
The controversy continues as both political leaders exchange accusations ahead of the upcoming elections.
