Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India]: Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was attacked in his Bandra residence during a suspected burglary attempt early Thursday morning. The incident left the actor with severe stab wounds, and he was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent surgery. He is currently recovering in the ICU.
Details of the Attack
The attack occurred around 2:30 am in Saif’s 11th-floor apartment. The intruder reportedly confronted the actor’s maid, escalating into a violent altercation when Saif intervened. During the scuffle, the actor sustained serious injuries, including a major wound to the thoracic spinal cord.
Surgery and Current Condition
Doctors at Lilavati Hospital performed surgery to remove a 2.5-inch knife lodged in Saif’s spine and repaired a spinal fluid leak. While Saif is out of danger, he remains under close observation in the ICU.
Police Investigation
Mumbai Police have launched an extensive investigation, forming 20 teams to apprehend the assailant. According to Dixit Gedam, DCP Zone 9, the attacker accessed Saif’s residence using a fire escape staircase.
“This appears to be a robbery attempt. The accused used the fire escape to enter the house and demanded one crore rupees from the family,” Gedam stated. An FIR has been registered, and statements from the actor’s household staff, including the complainant maid, have been recorded.
The complainant revealed that the intruder attacked her with a hexa blade before confronting Saif. “He demanded money, specifically one crore, during the altercation,” she stated.
Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Statement
Saif’s wife, actor Kareena Kapoor Khan, addressed the media via Instagram, describing the day as “incredibly challenging” for their family. She urged the media to respect their privacy, emphasizing the need for space to heal and cope.
“We appreciate the concern and support but request that relentless speculation and coverage cease. The constant scrutiny poses a significant risk to our safety,” Kareena said.
Support from Family and Friends
Saif’s family and close friends rushed to Lilavati Hospital upon hearing the news. Kareena, Soha Ali Khan, Kunal Kemmu, Sara Ali Khan, and Ibrahim Ali Khan were among those who visited the actor. Saif’s mother, veteran actor Sharmila Tagore, was also spotted at the hospital on Thursday evening.

Mumbai Police have deployed extensive resources, with 20 teams actively working to track down the assailant. The investigation continues as authorities review CCTV footage and gather evidence from the crime scene.
