Noida (Uttar Pradesh) [India]: Congress leader Sachin Pilot strongly criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday, alleging that his recent remarks have caused nationwide outrage. Pilot stated that the public has understood the BJP’s true intentions, which he claimed are contrary to the principles of the Constitution and Dr. BR Ambedkar.
“There is outrage in the whole country against the statement of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The country has understood the real intentions of the BJP and their thinking is against the Constitution and Dr BR Ambedkar. Union Home Minister should apologize for insulting Dr BR Ambedkar. There has been a demand in the entire country that Amit Shah must resign on moral grounds,” Pilot remarked.
Former Rajasthan Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot echoed Pilot’s views, also calling for Shah’s resignation. “The kind of comment made by the Union Home Minister Amit Shah, it is natural that this issue had to be raised inside and outside the Parliament. The government should understand the anger in the country… Congress has demanded that he (Amit Shah) should resign. Every opposition party is demanding this,” Gehlot said.
Opposition parties have accused Amit Shah of disrespecting Ambedkar, a claim the senior BJP leader has denied.
The controversy has led to parallel protests from both BJP and Opposition MPs in Parliament. Treasury bench MPs, including Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput, were injured during a scuffle that ensued during the demonstrations. BJP MPs were protesting against Congress for allegedly insulting Dr. Ambedkar, while INDIA Bloc MPs, led by Rahul Gandhi, demanded Shah’s resignation over his remarks.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge alleged that he was pushed by BJP MPs while entering Parliament during the protests, escalating tensions between the two sides.
Meanwhile, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati criticized both the BJP and Congress, claiming that they are “two sides of the same coin” and accusing them of engaging in politics over the legacy of Babasaheb Ambedkar.
As the standoff continues, calls for accountability and demands for Amit Shah’s resignation have further intensified the ongoing political clash in Parliament.
