Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh) [India]: Former ISRO Chairman S Somnath, along with his family, participated in the ongoing Mahakumbh Mela 2025 in Prayagraj, taking a holy dip at the sacred Triveni Sangam and offering prayers at the world’s largest spiritual gathering.

Sharing his experience on social media platform X, Somnath described Mahakumbh as humanity’s pursuit of a connection with the universe and the quest for the “nectar of life.”
“Maha Kumbh was experienced as humanity’s search for the connection to the universe and have the ‘Amrut’, the nectar of life. I had a blissful snan at the Triveni Sangam in the company of Sadhus,” he wrote.

Millions Take Holy Dip at Mahakumbh 2025
According to the Uttar Pradesh Information Department, more than 3.09 million (30.94 lakh) devotees took the holy dip at the Triveni Sangam on Wednesday morning alone, pushing the total number of pilgrims beyond 555.6 million (55.56 crore) since the event began.
The 2025 Mahakumbh, recognized as the world’s largest spiritual and cultural gathering, commenced on Paush Purnima (January 13, 2025) and will conclude on February 26, 2025.
Leaders and Devotees Flock to Prayagraj
Several prominent leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, and other Union Ministers and celebrities, have taken part in the holy dip at the Triveni Sangam.
Uttar Pradesh’s Spiritual & Economic Growth
Speaking on Monday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized the transformative progress in the state, citing Prayagraj, Kashi, and Ayodhya as symbols of India’s growing potential. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for restoring faith and respect for India’s heritage globally.
He highlighted the rapid increase in Ayodhya’s pilgrimage numbers, which surged from 2.35 lakh visitors in 2016-17 to over 14-15 crore in 2024, signifying both spiritual reverence and economic growth.
In addition to Prayagraj, massive gatherings of devotees were witnessed at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi and Ayodhya, as pilgrims continue their spiritual journey after taking a dip at the Mahakumbh.
