Ryan Reynolds Reflects On Superhero Journey, Teases Ensemble Project At Time 100 Summit

Washington [US], April 24: Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds opened up about the highs and lows of his superhero journey during his appearance at the 2025 Time 100 Summit, offering rare insights into his creative evolution and entrepreneurial ventures.

Reflecting on his experience with the 2011 film Green Lantern, Reynolds called it a “learning experience,” noting how the production focused heavily on visual effects rather than character-driven storytelling.

“I learned all the most amazing lessons I could ever have in the creative space from that movie,” he said, adding, “I remember suggesting, ‘Why don’t we write a scene the way people would talk?’ Something real, something grounded—it wouldn’t cost anything.”

Reynolds emphasized that the biggest lesson he took from the film was the importance of character over spectacle—a mantra that would later define his critically acclaimed Deadpool films.

During the summit, the actor also discussed the rise of his media company, Maximum Effort, which has been behind hits like Deadpool, Free Guy, Shotgun Wedding, and the animated film IF. The studio’s mission blends irreverent humor with emotional depth, a style now synonymous with Reynolds.

Speaking about his career path, he shared,

“The greatest superpower I ever had in my life was knowing who I am.”

Reynolds also teased fans with hints about the future of Deadpool, especially after the massive success of Deadpool & Wolverine (2024), now the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time. When asked about the Merc with a Mouth joining the Avengers, Reynolds responded with a coy, “I do,” before segueing into how the Deadpool franchise served as a metaphor for the Disney-Fox merger.

He also expressed his desire to return to ensemble storytelling:

“I’m writing a little something right now that is an ensemble,” he revealed, adding that he’s open to taking a supporting role to deliver “that feeling of gasp” to audiences again.

Reynolds concluded with praise for characters like Blade (Wesley Snipes), suggesting they deserve a proper comeback:

“That character should have a third act in this moment,” he said.

With new projects in the works and continued success at the box office, Reynolds’ creative journey is far from over.
