July 17, 2025: Actors Ryan Gosling and Will Ferrell are joining forces for a new action-comedy titled Tough Guys, currently in development at Amazon MGM Studios, according to a report from Deadline.
Written by Daniel Gold, the film centers around two henchmen who grow tired of being seen as expendable and decide to break away from their criminal bosses. What follows is a comedic and action-packed journey as the pair attempt to forge a new life on their own terms, flipping the typical crime narrative on its head.
Daniel Gold, best known for his work as writer and producer on all seven seasons of the hit series Workin’ Moms, brings his sharp storytelling and comedic sensibility to this new project.
Production is also being shaped by big names behind the scenes. Gosling and Jessie Henderson are in discussions to produce under their Open Invite Entertainment banner. Meanwhile, Will Ferrell and Jessica Elbaum are expected to produce through Gloria Sanchez Productions. Trevor Engelson and Aaron Folbe may join as executive producers via Underground.
A director for the project has yet to be announced.
Gosling, who recently starred in Barbie, is also set to appear in two high-profile upcoming projects: Amazon MGM’s Project Hail Mary and Star Wars: Starfighter, directed by Shawn Levy and slated for release on May 28, 2027.
Will Ferrell also has a full slate of upcoming titles, including Judgment Day, Street Justice, and the Netflix comedy series Golf. In Judgment Day, Ferrell plays a reality TV judge taken hostage by a former convict (Zac Efron), who blames him for a life-altering verdict. The ensemble cast includes Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Jimmy Tatro, Michael Pena, Bill Camp, and more.
