Russian Parliament Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin Arrives In India To Strengthen Bilateral Ties

New Delhi [India]: The Chairman of Russia’s lower house of Parliament, Vyacheslav Volodin, arrived in India on Monday for an official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation.

His discussions with Indian leaders will focus on expanding ties in economic, cultural, educational, and technological sectors, while also enhancing inter-parliamentary dialogue between the two nations.

Sharing pictures of his arrival on X, the Russian Embassy in India posted, “Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin arrived on an official visit to #India. In #NewDelhi, issues of #RussiaIndia cooperation in economic, cultural, educational & technological spheres, as well as the development of interparliamentary dialogue, will be discussed.”

In another post, the embassy stated, “Meetings of the Chairman with the Indian leadership and a visit to both houses of the Parliament of #India are planned.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin Expected to Visit India

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin is also expected to visit India later this year for the annual India-Russia summit. The exact dates will be determined through diplomatic channels, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a press briefing last month.

The last annual summit took place in Moscow, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with President Putin. This year, it is India’s turn to host the meeting, and the final schedule will be confirmed soon.

On December 2, Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov confirmed that President Putin had received an invitation from PM Modi and that the visit was being considered positively. “Our leaders have an agreement to hold meetings once a year. This time, it’s our turn,” Ushakov said.

Notably, this will be Putin’s first visit to India since the Russia-Ukraine conflict began in 2022. Throughout the ongoing crisis, India has consistently advocated for “peace and diplomacy” as the means to resolve the conflict.
