Russian Attacks on Ukraine Kill At Least Six, Hit Energy Infrastructure

Russia launched a major wave of attacks across Ukraine on Tuesday, striking city buildings and energy infrastructure, which resulted in the deaths of at least six people. The attacks coincided with ongoing diplomatic efforts in Geneva and Abu Dhabi to negotiate a peace plan to end the conflict.

Casualties and Damage in Kyiv

The capital city of Kyiv was targeted by multiple strikes, resulting in casualties and disruptions to essential services:

  • Svyatoshynyi District: In a subsequent attack wave, a strike on a nonresidential building in the western Svyatoshynyi district killed four people and injured three, according to Tymor Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv city administration.
  • Dniprovskyi District: Earlier, Mayor Vitalii Kitschko reported that two people were killed and five injured in the eastern Dniprovskyi district where a nine-story residential building caught fire.
  • Pechersk District: Another residential building in the central Pechersk district was badly damaged.
  • Infrastructure Knocked Out: Water, electricity, and heat were temporarily knocked out in parts of Kyiv following the strikes on energy infrastructure.

Attacks Outside the Capital

The Russian attacks extended beyond Kyiv, hitting energy and port facilities:

  • Odesa Region: Ukraine’s emergency services reported that six people, including two children, were injured in a Russian attack targeting energy and port infrastructure.
  • Energy Infrastructure: Ukraine’s energy ministry confirmed that energy facilities were hit across the country, though the full extent of the damage was not immediately clear.

Ukrainian Attack on Russia

Simultaneously, a Ukrainian drone attack on Russia’s southern Rostov region overnight also resulted in casualties and damage:

  • Taganrog City: The attack in the city of Taganrog killed three people and wounded eight more.
  • Damage: Governor Yuri Slyusar stated that the attack damaged private houses, multi-story residential blocks, social facilities, a warehouse, and a paint shop.

The Russian Defense Ministry claimed its air defenses destroyed 249 Ukrainian drones overnight above various Russian regions and occupied Crimea, with 116 shot down over the Black Sea.
