Russia Warns U.S. Against Attacking Iran, Offers To Mediate Amid Escalating Israel-Iran Conflict

Moscow [Russia], June 20: The Kremlin has warned the United States that any military intervention in the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict would be a grave miscalculation that could ignite a broader regional war. Speaking to reporters, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that direct U.S. involvement would severely destabilise the Middle East, RT reported.

“Tensions are already at a breaking point following Israel’s large-scale bombing campaign against Iran last week, which Tel Aviv claims was aimed at halting Iran’s nuclear ambitions,” Peskov noted. Tehran has firmly denied these allegations and has launched a series of drone and missile attacks in retaliation.

“Moscow believes it is a wrong move. This is a step that is bound to lead to further escalation, a major escalation, and would only complicate the situation in the region,” said Peskov, adding, “Such conflicts are capable of setting the entire region on fire.”

Reiterating Russia’s opposition to any form of regime change in Iran, Peskov said discussions or actions along those lines by the U.S. or Israel are “unacceptable.” He also stressed that President Vladimir Putin continues to maintain contact with both Iran and Israel, and holds a “complete picture” of the ongoing conflict.

Despite limited grounds for negotiations at present, Moscow is actively engaged in diplomatic efforts. Putin has reportedly proposed several compromise frameworks to all stakeholders — including the U.S., Israel, and Iran — aiming for a balanced settlement. The Russian proposal includes mutual security guarantees, ensuring Iran’s right to peaceful nuclear technology while respecting Israel’s need for national security.

Meanwhile, Washington has not ruled out military action. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on Thursday quoted President Donald Trump as saying he would make a decision within the next two weeks on whether the U.S. would join Israel in the conflict.

“Based on the fact that there’s a substantial chance of negotiations… I will make my decision whether or not to go within the next two weeks,” Trump’s statement read.

The White House reiterated that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons remains a top priority. “No enrichment of uranium and… Iran is absolutely not able to achieve a nuclear weapon,” Leavitt said.

The situation continues to evolve rapidly, with mounting concerns over regional stability, oil markets, and the risk of a multi-front war involving global powers.
