Moscow, Russia | July 29, 2025: Russian President Vladimir Putin has informed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Moscow stands ready to facilitate a diplomatic solution to the ongoing Iranian nuclear issue. The offer, reported by Russian state news agency TASS, was made during a phone call between the two leaders on Monday, amid escalating tensions between Iran and Israel.
The Kremlin press service released a statement confirming Putin’s offer: “In light of the recent escalation in the Iranian-Israeli confrontation, Russia has expressed its readiness to assist in every possible way to facilitate a diplomatic solution concerning Iran’s nuclear program.”
This high-level phone conversation takes place just weeks after a brief but alarming military conflict in June, involving Iran, Israel, and the United States. That confrontation had significantly heightened global concerns over regional stability.
Israel has long been a vocal opponent of Iran’s nuclear activities, maintaining that Tehran’s program, even when claimed to be for civilian purposes, could be used to develop nuclear weapons. This concern is widely shared by the United States.
The June conflict began on the 13th when Israel launched military operations targeting Iranian assets. Iran swiftly responded with retaliatory strikes. Nine days later, the United States reportedly entered the fray, attacking three Iranian nuclear sites. By June 24, all three nations had agreed to a ceasefire, though underlying tensions in the region remain exceptionally high.
The Kremlin emphasized that Moscow staunchly supports diplomatic negotiations and views dialogue as the sole viable path to resolve the dispute surrounding Iran’s nuclear program. This reiterates Russia’s long-standing position of advocating for a negotiated settlement while also stressing the importance of upholding Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, a topic also discussed in the call with Netanyahu.
