Russia Launches “Massive Attack” On Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk Region, Two Killed In Overnight Strikes

Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region came under a “massive attack” early on Saturday, according to Governor Sergiy Lysak. Explosions were reported in the cities of Dnipro and Pavlograd. The strikes followed an overnight attack on Friday that killed two people in the region.

“The region is under a massive attack. Explosions are being heard,” Lysak wrote on his Telegram channel, confirming reports of hits in both cities and stating that information on casualties and damage is still being clarified. Several local Telegram channels also reported power outages in parts of Dnipro following the attack.

The Dnipropetrovsk region has largely been spared from the most intense fighting since Russia’s full-scale invasion began in February 2022. However, the situation has changed in recent weeks, with Moscow’s forces advancing into the region and reportedly seizing some settlements.

The Russian strikes on Dnipropetrovsk come shortly after Ukrainian drones reportedly struck an oil refinery in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai. The Kyiv Independent reported that explosions were heard by local residents around 2:30 a.m. local time on August 30, with videos on social media showing a large fire at the refinery.

Krasnodar Krai, located just east of Crimea, has been a frequent target of Ukrainian drone attacks, as its military infrastructure is considered critical for Russia’s air operations in the south and over the Black Sea.
