Russia, India Reaffirm Cooperation To Counter Global Terror Threat Amid Rising Tensions In South Asia

Moscow [Russia]: Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko met with Indian Ambassador Vinay Kumar on April 28, reaffirming Russia’s commitment to jointly counter the global terrorist threat alongside India.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia posted on X:

“On April 28, Deputy FM Andrey #Rudenko met with India’s Ambassador @vkumar1969. Russia’s readiness to counter the global terrorist threat, together with India was reaffirmed.”

During their meeting, Rudenko and Kumar discussed key bilateral issues, the schedule of upcoming political engagements, and the overall situation in South Asia. A major focus of their conversation was the recent escalation of tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad following the brutal terrorist attack near Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.

On April 22, terrorists attacked tourists near the popular Baisaran Meadow in Pahalgam, killing 26 people, including one Nepalese citizen. It marked one of the deadliest terror incidents in Kashmir since the 2019 Pulwama attack, which claimed the lives of 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel.

In response to the attack, India announced on April 27 the revocation of all categories of visas issued to Pakistani citizens — with exceptions only for long-term, diplomatic, and official visas. Medical visas already granted to Pakistani nationals will remain valid only until April 29.

Meanwhile, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan held a video conference with the chief secretaries of all Indian states, directing necessary actions to ensure compliance with the new visa policies.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also personally spoke with the chief ministers across the country, instructing them to identify Pakistani nationals currently residing within their states and initiate immediate steps to facilitate their deportation.

This sharp diplomatic move reflects India’s renewed emphasis on tightening border security and regulating the presence of foreign nationals in light of persistent cross-border terror threats.
