Television star Rupali Ganguly, widely known for her leading role in the hit show Anupamaa, has publicly condemned remarks made by Peter Navarro, a senior trade adviser to U.S. President Donald Trump. Navarro’s comments, which he made during an interview on Fox News, have drawn widespread criticism in India for targeting a specific community.
Navarro, while discussing India’s foreign policy and its purchase of Russian oil, accused “Brahmins of profiteering at the expense of the Indian people.” He went on to say that the practice “needs to stop” and that the U.S. would be “watching that closely.”
A Strong Rebuttal on Social Media
Rupali Ganguly swiftly took to her social media account on X (formerly Twitter) to deliver a scathing response. In her post, she stated, “Let’s be clear! Brahmins aren’t responsible for your failed trade policies or America’s economic mess. Targeting a community with casteist jibes won’t hide your record of blunders. Don’t drag Brahmins or India to hide your mess. That old trick won’t work anymore, Indians stand united.”
The actress has a history of using her platform to speak out on social issues. In a recent instance, she voiced her support for animal rights after the Supreme Court of India ordered stray dogs in the Delhi-NCR region to be moved to shelter homes. Sharing a video with a stray dog, she wrote, “This country and the world belongs to them as well. Compassion and kindness over hatred and cruelty.”
While Rupali Ganguly is active on social issues, her television show, Anupamaa, continues to be a dominant force in the Indian television landscape. The show retained its top position on the weekly TRP charts with a rating of 2.3, a testament to its popularity and Rupali Ganguly’s enduring appeal.
