Rujuta Diwekar shares 5 simple diet and lifestyle tips for stronger, healthier hair

Struggling with weak, dull hair despite using multiple products? Celebrity nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar says the real solution lies in improving your diet and daily habits rather than relying only on external treatments.

Here are her 5 practical tips to strengthen hair from within:

1. Don’t skip carbs like rice

Rujuta emphasises that extreme dieting and cutting out carbohydrates can harm hair health. She recommends including rice in your daily meals, as overall physical health directly impacts hair strength and growth.

2. Eat local and seasonal fruits

Fruits like guava, amla, and mangoes are rich in vitamin C, which helps improve iron absorption. Better haemoglobin levels lead to stronger, shinier, and healthier hair.

3. Include pulses and legumes daily

Foods like moong, arhar, and chawli provide essential amino acids, B vitamins, and fibre. These nutrients help reduce hair breakage and improve hair strength from the roots.

4. Add halim (aliv) seeds in traditional forms

Halim seeds are rich in folic acid and nutrients beneficial for hair and skin. Rujuta suggests consuming them as laddoos or kheer instead of trendy “health shots,” which may not be as effective.

5. Follow basic hair care habits

Along with diet, she recommends:

  • Oiling hair once a week and leaving it for at least 30 minutes
  • Regular combing to improve blood circulation
  • Avoiding excessive styling and heat treatments
  • Accepting your natural hair texture

Bottom line

According to Rujuta, healthy hair is a reflection of overall wellness. Simple, consistent habits—like eating balanced meals and following basic care routines—can make a noticeable difference over time.
