RP Singh Recalls T20 World Cup 2007 Victory Parade And Fan’s Unusual Request

Former Indian fast bowler Rudra Pratap Singh has shared a remarkable, and a bit chaotic, story from the victory parade in Mumbai following India’s historic win at the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007. India won the championship more than seventeen years ago in a nail-biting final against their biggest rivals, Pakistan, in Johannesburg. A huge open bus parade in Mumbai was held to commemorate, and it drew huge numbers of excited fans.

The 39-year-old bowler remarked, “The celebration parade was beyond anything I had imagined,” remembering the mood in the most recent episode of JioHotstar’s “Cheeky Singles.” He said that the highways were blocked off and people were throwing things, like chocolates, at the team bus.

He then told a strange story: “Someone threw a tiny cake to me and said, ‘Please hold it and cut it.’ I told them, “Don’t do this; it could fall.” He said that even though it was raining, the crowd was “electric,” and people were going crazy with joy.

RP Singh was a significant participant in India’s win. He led the pace attack and ended the tournament as the second-highest wicket-taker with 12 wickets. He stopped playing international cricket in 2018 after playing 82 matches and taking 124 wickets in all formats for India.
