Rohit-Suryakumar Brilliance Powers MI’s Comeback Surge, Earns Praise from Hayden And Chawla

New Delhi [India], April 24: The Mumbai Indians (MI) have scripted a stunning resurgence in the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), delivering a dominant seven-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Their emphatic win, powered by explosive performances from Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav, drew high praise from former cricket stars Matthew Hayden and Piyush Chawla.

Once languishing at the bottom of the points table, MI are now strongly contesting for a playoff spot, showcasing a familiar comeback spirit reminiscent of past seasons.

Speaking on JioHotstar, Piyush Chawla, a former MI spinner, credited the turnaround to the team’s deep-seated experience and composure under pressure.

“The kind of cricket they’re playing now, their wins are comprehensive. The bowlers are executing plans well, and the batters are shining. Rohit Sharma’s return to form has been key, and with Hardik Pandya contributing effectively in both departments, it’s giving a boost to his captaincy too.”

The Sunrisers were rattled early in the game by a clinical spell from Trent Boult, who claimed four crucial wickets, restricting them to a modest 144. In reply, Rohit Sharma anchored the chase with a measured 70 off 46 balls, combining aggression with finesse. His calculated stroke play dismantled the SRH bowling attack and ensured MI never lost grip of the match.

Matthew Hayden, lauding the innings, said:

“Rohit’s innings was a masterclass in chasing. His tempo was spot on—controlled aggression, exploiting the gaps, and managing the chase like a pro. It wasn’t just powerful, it was purposeful.”

Suryakumar Yadav, known for his flair and creativity, added the finishing touches with an unbeaten 40 off just 19 balls. His innovative shot-making took the pressure off Rohit and ensured Mumbai wrapped up the match with more than four overs to spare.

“Suryakumar came in with intent,” Chawla noted. “He took a few balls to settle and then unleashed those trademark shots—sweeps, lofts, classy drives. That’s the SKY we know, capable of destroying any attack. It was a treat to watch.”

With the batting unit firing and bowlers delivering consistently, the five-time champions seem to have found their rhythm at just the right time in the tournament.
